Doron Kempel
Chairman & CEO

Before starting SimpliVity, Doron was the Founder and CEO of Diligent Technologies, a pioneer in Enterprise Data Deduplication.  Diligent was acquired by IBM in April 2008. Prior to Diligent, Doron served as Vice President and General Manager at EMC. Prior to joining EMC, Doron was VP Sales & Marketing at Imedia Corporation, a pioneer in digital video distribution. Imedia was acquired by Terayon Communications Systems.

Doron holds Law and Philosophy degrees, and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard University.

Mitch Breen
Senior VP, Global Sales

As Senior VP of Global Sales, Mitch is responsible for driving new growth for the company and its partners.

Mitch joined SimpliVity from Oracle Corporation, where he served as Senior Vice President of Infrastructure Sales for North America, which included Oracle's server, storage, engineered systems and networking products. Prior to that, Breen held a series of positions with progressively increasing responsibility during a span of 25 years at EMC Corporation, where he moved from sales into leadership posts including Senior Vice President of Mid-range Storage and Senior Vice President of Global Channel Sales, and helped guide the organization through a series of business transitions.

Mitch holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts.

Marianne Budnik
Chief Marketing Officer

As CMO, Marianne is responsible for SimpliVity's global marketing initiatives. Previously, Marianne was the CMO at Acme Packet Inc., where she drove the organization's overall marketing strategy, integrated marketing initiatives and product line management organization, through the company's acquisition by Oracle in 2013. Prior to Acme Packet, she served as senior vice president at CA Technologies. In addition, she has held a series of leadership positions within EMC Corporation, including vice president, global field marketing and programs, heading the EMC Marketing Operations and Strategic Planning Organization, and director of software product marketing.

Marianne holds an MBA from Boston University and earned a bachelor's degree from Babson College.

Christian van der Branden

Christian van den Branden
VP, Engineering

Christian brings over 17 years of engineering leadership experience. As SimpliVity's Vice President of Engineering, he is responsible for the development and delivery of the company's products.

Prior to joining SimpliVity, Christian was Vice President of Engineering at DynamicOps, Inc., a leading provider of cloud orchestration and provisioning products, which was acquired by VMware in Q3 2012. Following the acquisition, Christian stayed on to lead the development of VMware's orchestration and cloud provisioning offering. Before joining DynamicOps, Christian was a Sr. Director of Engineering at RSA, the security division of EMC. Christian held several engineering and operational roles within EMC's storage business prior to RSA. Before EMC, he was an engineering manager at Lucent Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ and a senior member of the technical staff at Hewlett Packard Laboratories in Palo Alto, CA.

Christian holds an M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland and an MBA from Boston University. He is a member of the IEEE and of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society.


Rich Shea
VP Sales & Services

Rich brings 25 years of experience with global sales management, product marketing, and system engineering.  As the VP of Sales & Services he is responsible for revenue generation, business development, services and support. 

Prior to SimpliVity, Rich was the Area Vice President at EqualLogic, where he made the company’s first sale and majority of follow on sales in year one; created & implemented sales and channel go-to-market strategies; recruited & trained the majority of EqualLogic’s channel as well as its field sales personnel; and grew his area revenues from $0 to over $120M/yr. in 4 ½ years. Following Dell’s acquisition of EqualLogic, Rich joined LeftHand Networks as the VP Sales for North America managing 60+ field personnel with approximately $ 100M/yr. run rate LeftHand was acquired by HP.  As the Global Director of Sales of EMC’s Media Solutions Group, he managed a global field force of 70+ Ramping revenue from $12M to over $ 125M in two years.

He has a Bachelors degree in Marine Engineering from Massachusetts Maritime Academy and a Masters of Business Administration from Boston College.


Tom Grave
VP Product Management 

Tom has over 17 years of experience in high tech marketing and product management, with a focus on storage, data protection, and virtualization. As the VP of Product Management at SimpliVity he is responsible for product marketing, product positioning, go-to-market strategy, and product launch initiatives.

Prior to SimpliVity, Tom was the Director of Product Management and Marketing for the storage division at IBM, with responsibility for a $1 Billion portfolio. Before IBM, Tom served as the Director of Product Management and Marketing at Diligent Technologies. 

He holds a Bachelors of Arts degree from Harvard University and a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania.


Jesse St. Laurent
VP Product Strategy

Jesse brings almost 20 years of IT infrastructure experience. As the VP Product Strategy, he is intimately engaged with customers, channel partners and SimpliVity's Engineering organization, and helps shape the product direction and strategy.

Prior to SimpliVity, Jesse served as the CTO at Corporate Technology Inc (CTI), a $100M+ Systems Integration, where he focused on evaluation emerging technologies such as NetApp, 3PAR, Acopia, Riverbed, and F5. Jesse frequently speaks at industry events both in the US and internationally.

Jesse holds a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from Brown University.

Peter Baglieri
VP Strategic Sales

Peter Baglieri has had a successful sales track record in the technology industry for 25 years. He is a proven leader who has built a lengthy executive contact list in many industries, including financial services, media & entertainment and consulting. Both Fortune 500 companies as well as smaller entrepreneurial companies profitably grew their business as a result of Peter's sales expertise. He has consistently been effective at introducing disruptive technologies to Fortune 100 companies.

Peter has exceeded sales goals while holding leadership roles at the following companies: NetApp, Diligent, EMC, Giantloop Network, Metromedia Fiber Network, Abovenet & MCI. He serves on the advisory board of the Peter C. Alderman Foundation, Motion Picture Enterprises and The Historic Vehicle Association.

He holds a Bachelors of Science in Sports Marketing from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.

Klaus Seidl
VP Sales Europe

Klaus brings 25 years of experience in technical sales, business development for the high tech industry. As SimpliVity's VP Sales - Europe, he is responsible for the team that builds and supports the partner network, and drives customer sales with partners throughout Europe.

Klaus has held leadership roles at many prominent and successful high tech firms during his career. Prior to SimpliVity, Klaus served as the Sales Director of Central & Eastern Europe for Palo Alto Networks, where he doubled the size of the Central and Eastern European sales organization. Prior to Palo Alto, he spend 10 years at NetApp, where he developed key sales positions for the Central European region. In his five years at Riverbed, he expanded the sales organization from 2 to 17 sales teams and established functioning partnerships and partner programs.

Klaus received his Masters in Computer Science from Technical University in Munich.

Rich Kucharski
VP Solutions Architecture

Rich Kucharski has been in the technology industry for over 20 years. The last 11 years have been focused in the storage and data management space. He has demonstrated an ability to build successful teams and drive corporate initiatives. As the VP of Solution Architecture at SimpliVity he is responsible for customer facing engagement as well as product rollout.

Rich joined Simplivity after spending 2 years at JPMorgan where he was responsible for Infrastructure services and engagement with the development teams across the business lines. Prior to JPMC, Rich led the XIV technical sales global team. In this capacity he was responsible for recruiting, hiring the global technical leaders and working with the geography leads to build out the individual contributors. During his tenure the team has grew from ~ 10 global technical resources to over 120. Over this span revenues grew from 3 million per quarter to over 100 million per quarter with a run rate over over 500 million for 2010. Prior to XIV Rich led various teams at EMC delivering solutions a broad spectrum of customers including Goldman Sachs, CitiBank, Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan.

Rich holds a Bachelors of Science in Political Science from William Paterson University.


Owen Carr
Director Hardware and Engineering Operations

Owen brings over 25 years of experience in engineering and managing product development for storage infrastructure, networking and minicomputer companies. As Director of Hardware and Engineering Operations he is responsible for daily operations of the engineering organization. Prior to SimpliVity, Owen was the Director of Product Development at Artel Video Systems which developed NEBS certified optical transport products for tier one dark fiber providers. 

Owen was a co-founder and Director of Hardware Engineering at Acopia Networks, which developed storage virtualization solutions and was acquired by F5 Networks in 2007. Owen was also a member of the founding team and VP of Hardware Engineering at Spring Tide Networks, which was acquired by Lucent Technologies in 2000. Prior to Spring Tide, he held several engineering positions at Xyplex, Stratus Computer and Data General where he developed and managed numerous high density ASIC based fault tolerant networking and minicomputer products.

Owen received his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from New York University.


Karen Baker
Director of Operations

Karen brings over 25 years of experience working with high growth technology companies. As the Director of Operations at SimpliVity, Karen is responsible for finance, human resources, legal, and administration.

Karen was previously VP of Finance at Demantra, a leading provider of demand management applications.  Demantra was sold to Oracle in 2006. Before Demantra she was Chief of Staff at ZEFER Corp, a web services firm, now Niteo partners of NEC.

She holds a Bachelors of Science in Finance from University of Rhode Island.
