What’s the real “secret sauce” behind SimpliVity’s hyperconverged infrastructure and just exactly how does SimpliVity do it?
The Data Virtualization Platform and its three main ingredients
1. Data Efficiency – SimpliVity’s OmniStack Accelerator Card deduplicates, compresses, and optimizes all data, at inception, once and forever, across the entire data lifecycle. What this really means is that all data is deduplicated immediately and stays in its most optimized state forever. Period. With this approach, the need for purpose-built deduplication and WAN optimization appliances are gone. It’s what’s enabling SimpliVity customers to achieve, on average, 40:1 data efficiency. And yes, the rumors are true that many SimpliVity customers realize over 100:1 data efficiency rates. Even better, customers don’t have to trade-off efficiency and performance. TechValidate research found that 88% of surveyed IT organizations using SimpliVity’s hyperconverged infrastructure improved performance by 25% or more.
2. Native Data Protection – Key word here is “native.” Imagine if your point products for backup, replication, disaster recovery, across all of your sites, were combined into a single solution that’s centrally managed from one screen.
SimpliVity hyperconvergence brought this dream of native data protection into reality. Now, the need for third-party data protection software appliances is completely eliminated. For too many organizations, the thought of exceeding, let alone meeting, service level agreements (SLAs) and ensuring high availability with minimum downtime seems far out of reach. SimpliVity’s native data protection delivers RPOs of 10 minutes and RTOs in just seconds. All bases are covered and data is protected remotely and locally, with full logical backups.
3. Global Unified Management – Not only have you had to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in legacy equipment blinking in your data center, you also have to contend with managing eight to 12 separate systems, each with their own management GUI. The admin in the cube next to you and your counterpart at your remote site have little to no visibility or control over the VMs, data, or associated policies. Technology is supposed to make life easier, right?
SimpliVity’s solution wouldn’t be truly hyperconverged if it did not include global unified management. The main point here is that a single admin can easily manage all SimpliVity infrastructure from one screen across all sites, globally with VM-centric management. Instead of managing datastores or LUNS, all policies are created and revolve around the VM. This gets rid of the walls between IT groups, increases visibility, and allows for the mobility of VMs globally.
The secret sauce is the Data Virtualization Platform. Watch my colleague, Brian Knudston, discuss the Data Virtualization Platform in the video below.
