This week at VMworld, several of SimpliVity’s customers participated in a panel discussion regarding their use of SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure. The panel, moderated by SimpliVity’s own Marty Sanders, shared their experiences using hyperconverged infrastructure and discussed which hyperconverged infrastructure solutions were considered, why SimpliVity was chosen and how SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure had an economic impact on their IT infrastructure and operations.
The session was recorded and can be viewed on demand. Here are some highlights:
Primary problem to solve: Replace aging branch office infrastructure.
Why SimpliVity selected: Wanted something to standardize all branch office infrastructure that was easy to manage. Also, wanted to achieve more confidence with backups.
Economic impact: The cost of implementing SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure “came in two years ahead of schedule.”
Word of advice: “If considering hyperconvergence … it’s a great value.” “It’s here, it’s now and it’s ready. It will significantly change your infrastructure environment.”
How life changed after SimpliVity: “There was one point when we spent 80% of time managing remote office infrastructure and backups … and now there are weeks where I don’t even look at the branch office infrastructure because it works so well. There’s a lot more time to … help drive business goals.”
Primary problem to solve: “Had close to 100 servers to virtualize supporting critical municipal government applications, including … public safety (police, fire and EMS).”
Why SimpliVity selected: Fits into their economics. “We don’t have an unlimited budget and it fit our price tag.”
Economic impact: “We had to do our homework as far as the economics.” The cost analysis performed made the decision easy.
Word of advice: “It’s definitely worth a look. It’s worth the investment.”
How life changed after SimpliVity: “Fewer complaints from engineers … they have the tools they need now … which is good for me.”
Primary problem to solve: “We had storage constraints and … we required extreme uptime.”
Why SimpliVity selected: “It was really about efficiency. SimpliVity reduced the complexity of the infrastructure.” “We didn’t expect the management to be so easy – it’s a set it and forget it type of philosophy.”
Economic impact: “We put a good TCO together … for our investors to switch out all our compute, storage and provide a DR solution.”
Words of advice: “Take a look at the marketing versus the engineering.”
How life changed after SimpliVity: “There was a time when I used to joke that I was a CIO by day and sys admin by night … now I got my nights back.”
One of the most important value propositions of hyperconvergence is the ability to lower both upfront capital hardware costs, as well as reducing ongoing operating costs. The single consumable IT system simplifies management, resolves interoperability issues, and dramatically reduces costs when compared with legacy stacks. With SimpliVity’s ability to reduce IOPS, storage capacity and bandwidth requirements, and deliver built-in data protection that eliminates the need for separate backup hardware and tools, immediate capital savings are realized. With a high degree of automation, and the ability to manage aggregated resources across nodes as a single federated system through vCenter, customers see tremendous operational savings as well.
The customers agree that SimpliVity simplifies IT and delivers TCO savings that made it easy to convince their organizations to make the investment. For more, watch part one and two of the customer panel.
