Last week, I was at an event with about 250 senior IT leaders and analysts to talk about the latest and greatest opportunities for their business.
Two SimpliVity customers – CTO at a major public university, and Director of IT at an interactive game studio shared some statistics related to the time savings and cost reductions they’ve achieved with SimpliVity, including:
- Elimination of legacy stack vendor software, hardware, service contracts, and warranties
- 50% reduction in number of ESX hosts; significant power and cooling cost savings
- Ability to achieve enterprise-class disaster recovery (DR) across primary and backup sites
- Rapid restore and cloning of VMs (in seconds) for test/dev purposes
SimpliVity’s built-in data protection and disaster recovery capabilities also took center stage. In fact, 71% of IT executives at the event ranked sub-par data protection as their #1 issue, based on a survey we conducted. The inability to take frequent backups because of lengthy backup times and performance impacts of backup common to legacy solutions, and the lack of a disaster recovery plan, were also frequently cited as pain points.
To demonstrate the data protection outcomes that SimpliVity customers can expect, as part of our SimpliVity HyperGuarantee, Director Adam Sekora, from SimpliVity’s Office of the CTO, showed how a SimpliVity multi-site configuration was able to perform local and remote backups of a 600GB VM in just seconds, without impacting production VMs running on the same system. He also demonstrated a typical failover scenario, recovering and launching a two week old remote backup VM in less than 60 seconds.
In a keynote presentation to attendees, Marty Sanders, VP of Americas, discussed the economic outcomes of deploying disruptive hyperconverged technology. He included the following third-party data from TechValidate that shows how SimpliVity customers have successfully reduced costs and simplified their IT environment, in order to free up more time for innovation. Here are some of the stats he shared:
- 100:1 data efficiency ratio cited by more than 1/3 of SimpliVity customers
- 7:1 fewer devices after moving to SimpliVity, reported by more than 1/2 of customers
- 4:1 reduction in management consoles for more than 3/4 of SimpliVity customers
- 26% average time savings managing ROBO deployments with SimpliVity
The need to innovate through IT was a running theme throughout the event. Attendees acknowledged the correlation between market cap and the ability to innovate, citing Uber, Amazon, and Airbnb as examples from other industries. Yet, according to Gartner, only 20% of IT budgets are available for new projects and innovation. The only way for IT execs to break away from endless equipment refreshes and rising legacy costs, is to move past the status quo and embrace disruptive innovations like SimpliVity hyperconvergence.
At each event, we keep seeing the same challenges, and we’re hoping to continue helping customers transform their data centers in order to meet those challenges. It will be great to see how technology executives are progressing in their adoption of hyperconverged infrastructure at the next event. Deciding if hyperconvergence is right for you?
