The holidays are here. And for many of us, with the holidays come family. Like a driving blizzard, family members fly into town to congregate around a dinner table, a menorah, a Christmas tree. Aunts from out-of-town, uncles who always bring more presents than they can carry, mothers constantly asking when they are going to be blessed with a grandchild. “When I’m good and ready, that’s when mom!”
Ok, so that last example might be a little me-specific. But one thing that is universal around the holidays is the pressure to find the perfect gift. What do you get the person that seemingly has everything? What do you get the person that left their wish-list blank? Questions such as these are why organizations like Princess House are so important, especially around the holidays.
Princess House is a direct sales organization specializing in the sale of crystal, collectables, and stainless steel cookware. They even have a section of their website dedicated to gift giving. When the company was looking to modernize their IT infrastructure and improve their disaster recovery, Princess House’s IT Manager, Sean Lane, turned to SimpliVity.
Prior to deploying SimpliVity, the company’s legacy IT infrastructure included Dell PowerEdge servers and EqualLogic storage systems, all within a single data center. Lane and his IT department cohorts were forced to rely on four different data backup and recovery tools to protect a variety of enterprise and line-of-business applications. Because the company’s data protection solutions were so disjointed, the IT team was only able to backup fewer than 30 percent of the company’s virtual servers. This meant that if disaster struck, IT services, business functions, and critical applications had the potential to be impaired for hours or even days before being completely restored.
After vetting various solutions, Lane selected SimpliVity’s hyperconverged solution as the next-generation data center architecture for Princess House. He doesn’t seem to have any regrets about his decision.
“The SimpliVity solution was head and shoulders above the competition,” Lane said. “The other vendors didn’t offer fully converged solutions or couldn’t match OmniCube’s extensive functional capabilities. Better still, the SimpliVity solution was half the price of the other vendors’ solutions. And that doesn’t even factor in the ongoing operational savings.”
Princess House was able to reduce their TCO by consolidating five equipment racks with their legacy infrastructure to just two 2U units with SimpliVity. They are also seeing a data efficiency ratio of 69:1, which reduces their storage costs. And SimpliVity’s hyperconverged solution streamlines operations. This means Sean Lane and his IT staff have more time to focus on core business initiatives and innovation. It also means they are more efficient and don’t have to spend long nights at the office waiting on lengthy restores and backups. With SimpliVity, the IT department members can go home for the holidays and relax among friends and family. Around the holidays, extra time with family (even nagging mothers) is a gift that everyone has on their wish-list.
