The SimpliVity team is finishing up Cisco Live in Berlin this week, discussing the various use cases that SimpliVity and Cisco address together with OmniStack. SimpliVity’s OmniStack Solution with Cisco UCS is ideal for a wide variety of customer use cases, including data center consolidation, VDI, ROBO, data migration, private cloud, Tier-1 applications, data protection, and more. As a Cisco Preferred Solution Partner and Cisco TSANet Partner for support, SimpliVity has been taking the hyperconverged market by storm with its OmniStack solutions with Cisco.
And now, we’ve been showcasing two of the hottest use cases for hyperconvergence at Cisco Live: remote office / branch office (ROBO) sites and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
Businesses are constantly adjusting their physical, worldwide presence to expand customer reach and foster growth. According to ESG, 53% of companies operate at least 100 ROBOs worldwide! More over, the 2015 State of Hyperconvergence Report indicated that 37% of midmarket companies list “improvement of ROBOs” among their top five priorities over the next 12-18 months. The optimization of IT is critical to the success of ROBOs as application performance impacts employee productivity and customer satisfaction – and most importantly, IT inefficiencies erode the bottom line. It’s clear that failing to invest in ROBOs from an IT standpoint can seriously obstruct the growth of the business.
And today, we’re excited to announce a new solution to solve these customer pain points – the OmniStack Solution with Cisco UCS for Remote Sites. This new Remote Site model is designed to address the challenges and needs of small, distributed sites, giving the customer all the benefits of hyperconverged infrastructure without breaking the bank. In fact, the SimpliVity OmniStack Solution with Cisco UCS for Remote Sites is priced competitively at 45% lower than alternative hyperconverged offerings.
SimpliVity’s new Remote Site offering with Cisco UCS delivers several benefits to IT users and business users alike. Of course, with SimpliVity’s OmniStack Data Virtualization Platform there is always improved and consistent application performance, thanks to the elimination of IOs via inline deduplication, compression, and optimization. SimpliVity provides faster and more reliable data protection with less risk. And with built-in data protection, all ROBO data can be backed up remotely and locally, as well as treated according to the same corporate policies and schedules. The solution also brings improved WAN utilization without breaking the bank by reducing the network traffic associated with data protection functions. This eliminates the need for special-purpose WAN optimization appliances and enables aggressive RPOs and RTOs.
You’re probably thinking that “all this sounds great but I don’t have staff in all of my remote sites to manage something like this.” Fear not, SimpliVity’s global unified management allows for a single admin to manage all locations from one centralized and familiar user interface – no IT personnel is required at ROBO sites.
Desktop virtualization in the enterprise brings many operational benefits, including centralized management, security, and elimination of endpoint management. However, many VDI deployments have failed due to significant compromises related to scalability, performance, end-user experience, efficiency, data protection and DR for VDI workloads. Many organizations also question the extra 40-60% investment to deploy these systems. This is typically due to selecting VDI infrastructure that is inadequate for the unique requirements of VDI. Existing VDI infrastructure solutions are complex, rigid, and overly expensive, and have forced customers to forgo standard enterprise functionality and protection.
With that said, if just thinking about a VDI project probably gives some of you an immediate migraine, don’t pop the Excedrin just yet. You can overcome these challenges to successfully deploying VDI while reducing costs with SimpliVity OmniStack running on Cisco UCS. SimpliVity takes a different approach to deliver VDI. With SimpliVity, VDI customers don’t need to make difficult and time consuming predictions about growth to size upfront for their environment – SimpliVity allows the customer to start small and scale out. It’s simple to utilize Cisco compute nodes to scale out with your SimpliVity OmniStack federation as needed.
