Virtualization has become a top IT priority for organizations over recent years. Businesses have just become tired of dealing with the inflexible, complex, and expensive siloed infrastructure that the traditional IT stack brings. And understandably so. This exodus from traditional IT has enabled new emerging technologies, like hyperconvergence, to come to the forefront of IT and usher in a new cost-effective era of availability, resiliency, scalability, and performance.
To test the limits of hyperconverged infrastructure, Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) updated and published a February 2016 lab validation report on SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure. The report found that SimpliVity delivers configurations that are simple, efficient, and include cost-effective scalability and resiliency even when aggressive workloads, backups, data protection policies, and globally configured multi-data center sites are applied.
The report noted that a 52% savings in capacity was realized by ESG when conducting their research. The savings in capacity was a result of SimpliVity’s accelerated data efficiency. SimpliVity deduplicates, compresses, and optimizes all data globally, at inception, across all tiers, once and forever. No longer does data have to be almost constantly deduplicated post-process. In traditional IT stacks, a single block of data is deduplicated by a backup appliance, then again by the WAN optimization appliance, and often this single same block of data is deduplicated again by data protection applications that may back up the data separately.
ESG found that, not only was SimpliVity efficient, the hyperconverged solution was also easy to deploy and manage. The analyst group was able to complete the installation process, including the setup of servers, storage, networking, and a fully clustered, highly available VMware environment in under 20 minutes. With the traditional IT stack, these deployments are complex and time-consuming. However, ESG found that the SimpliVity installation process was quick and easy to complete.
If you are a business leader, you may be saying to yourself: “Deduplication, compression, and optimization all sound good, but why does this matter to the business? My IT team is excited about the functionality and performance of hyperconvergence, but how does that help me?” Well, the three pillars on which SimpliVity’s platform is built (accelerated data efficiency, built-in data protection, and global unified management) all help to lower both capital expenses and operational expenses by saving time for your IT team (which can be used to innovate), eliminating the need for outside consultants and out-of-house data protection policies, and enabling a single administrator to manage the entire global SimpliVity configuration from a single pane of glass, which reduces the need for multiple management functions and personnel. SimpliVity not only converges the entirety of the traditional IT stack, but also the interests of IT and business leaders.
