This season, SimpliVity, the tech industry’s only true hyperconverged infrastructure solution that guarantees data efficiency, protection, and resiliency, makes its Hollywood debut on HBO’s breakout hit Silicon Valley! After months of collaborating with production designer Rich Toyon and his team, the SimpliVity team and Pied Piper fans everywhere are awaiting the big reveal [cue angels and singing]. “The Box” which was teased in tonight’s episode and will be featured prominently next week in Episode 4.
OmniCube partners and customers, take careful note — it will look very familiar to many of you.
As fans of the show know, we are likely in for a wild (and hilarious) ride this season– and trust that SimpliVity will be with you providing updates and behind the scenes tidbits along the way. I thought it would be fun to share a rare glimpse into “the making of the box.”
While Massachusetts has become a destination for more movie making in recent years, it isn’t every day that we have the glamour of Hollywood grace our doorstep at SimpliVity corporate headquarters in Westborough, Mass. The entire office was abuzz this past winter (on a Sunday, no less…) as we welcomed Silicon Valley Production team members to our facility to learn about prototype development and early phase manufacturing. The attention paid to every detail was extraordinary. It’s no wonder they won the Emmy Award for outstanding production design!
Of course they fell in love with our stylish OmniCubes… no data center would be complete without them. 🙂
The prototypes were quickly produced, courtesy of a local auto body shop who lent us their paint bay to enable a quick “transformation!”
And it was off to Hollywood – starstruck, as we were…
…where we got a first-hand look at backlot setup (admittedly, not the most glamorous part).
There we prepared for “the big reveal.” How could it be, I wondered, that we’d come all this way, and done all this work, only to learn that there was STILL a question as to whether we’d live up to the grand vision of Executive Producers Mike Judge and Alec Berg?
The team gathered in a bunker-like structure on Sony’s backlot, anxiously awaiting Alec’s arrival, and approval (which I’d been cautioned might be hard-won). But the team was prepped and well-rehearsed, with primary images, backup images, and high-res photos galore!
The proverbial drumroll played in my mind….
And then we got it. “Looks good!” Alec said. Two simple words, and a lot of very big smiles!
And with that, “the box” was born.
And we were off to re-create the “headquarters experience” on the fancy new Pied Piper set.
Kudos to the many other tech companies that inspired the new Pied Piper office design.
SimpliVity might have the tech industry’s most exciting B2B product, however, its corporate offices are sorely lacking bean bag chairs and pool tables (not to mention celebrity sightings). Who has time for naps or games at a company growing as fast as SimpliVity?
Industry analysts project the hyperconverged infrastructure market to be growing at a nearly 80% CAGR, but SimpliVity is far outperforming that rate, with the industry’s most complete, superior hyperconverged infrastructure solution.

Many thanks to the incredible team at Silicon Valley: Rich, Jim, Jared, Andrew, Jenny, Jaclyn, Mike, Alec, and many more! It was an extraordinary team effort, and an awful lot of fun!
Here’s to a fabulous season 3, and looking forward to many more! Make sure you tune in to HBO at 10:00 pm ET on Sunday, May 15 to see the debut episode with SimpliVity!
