SimpliVity’s Technology Alliance Program has grown leaps and bounds since its January 2016 launch – and Citrix is bubbling up to the top of our list of strategic partners. With testing of Citrix XenDesktop 7.7 and 7.8 underway and our recent release of benchmark performance metrics for XenDesktop 7.6, we’ve become a Citrix Premier partner, helping customers take advantage of hyperconverged infrastructure for VDI.
Over the last several months, the SimpliVity VDI engineering team has partnered with Login VSI, another strong Technology Alliance Partner, to evaluate performance of Citrix XenDesktop 7.6 on SimpliVity’s Data Virtualization Platform. Blair Parkhill, Director Products from Login VSI noted, “Once again SimpliVity has gone through the Login VSI Validation program, demonstrating superb results for their Citrix XenDesktop 7.6 White Paper covering MCS and PVS. SimpliVity takes their testing and reporting very seriously and sets high standards for completely open and above-the-board information that helps demonstrate great performance to their prospective customers.”
The performance testing illustrates SimpliVity’s ability to deliver an excellent end-user experience in VDI deployments as the environment scales. Highlights include:
- High performance at scale with consistent, very low VSIMax Average – less than 2000ms measured throughout XenDesktop Hosted Shared deployments and Hosted Desktop deployments
- Reduced capacity and IO requirement through inline deduplication and compression rate above 20:1
- Support for 800 users with MCS and 1200 users with PVS RAM cache option with four SimpliVity nodes on Hosted Shared Desktop deployments
- Support for 600 users with MCS and 800 users with PVS RAM cache option with four SimpliVity nodes on Hosted Desktop deployments
- Near-elimination of IOPS with the PVS “write cache on RAM with overflow to disk” option
Our performance results demonstrate that SimpliVity provides VDI without compromise, and one perfect example comes from St. John’s Riverside Hospital, a joint Citrix customer. SimpliVity has consolidated St. John’s core data center from five full racks of gear down to two, driving down space, power, and cooling costs. The SimpliVity solution also enables a mix of workloads to 1,800 healthcare workers at the hospital. SimpliVity and Citrix were able to improve the desktop experience at St. John’s by delivering stellar performance (increase of 50% application delivery performance) for end-users, while also ensuring that critical data and applications stayed protected. At the same time, the combined solution delivered unmatched efficiencies (76:1) that drastically drove down the cost of the implementation.
It’s hard to believe that there could be superior examples of increased application delivery performance and capacity savings as seen in the success St. John’s deployment, but for Citrix, the XenApp and XenDesktop 7.8 release provides even greater business benefits. If SimpliVity and Citrix already offer organizations the best VDI performance, best guaranteed data efficiency, and best built-in backup and disaster recovery with 7.6, I can only wonder what integration of 7.8 will bring.
As leading vendors in our fields, SimpliVity and Citrix are an extraordinary pair for hyperconverged infrastructure with VDI, and we are thrilled to see what the future holds for our partnership as we continue to integrate our solutions.
