Online gambling has seemingly taken over the globe. Like the sports you can bet on, online gambling is immensely popular, exciting, and fast-paced.
The largest online gambling company in the world, bet365, knows a thing or two about sports and how to bet on them. They also know a thing or two about software innovation. The company, which was founded in 2000 in North Staffordshire, England, knows that constantly improving its online platform is key to its continued success.
Being the leader in a highly competitive industry, bet365 recognized that it had to upgrade its IT infrastructure in order to keep up with growing demands and to support its more than 21 million customers from all over the globe. Also in a fast-paced and rapidly growing industry, SimpliVity was a natural fit for bet365 to support its IT operations and move the online gambling company into a truly transformed next-generation data center.
Prior to SimpliVity, bet365 was using a SAN environment which had become increasingly difficult to manage and harder still to scale to the company’s growing needs. In addition, the company found its total cost of ownership (TCO) with the SAN was continually rising and was preventing the IT team from focusing budget on new projects. Instead they were forced to repeatedly spend the majority of their time and budget maintaining the SAN environment.
With the new hyperconverged environment, however, bet365’s IT team now has time for projects that will actually help move the business forward, instead of just maintaining the status quo. The online gambling organization chose SimpliVity for development and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) deployment and completed final testing and Operational Acceptance at the end of May, and has now started migrating the first development workloads onto the hyperconverged infrastructure environment. The IT team has already been impressed with the data efficiency ratios it is seeing, as well as the gains in operational efficiency.
bet365 isn’t the only organization that has noticed an increase in time spent working on new projects since deploying hyperconverged infrastructure. In an April 2016 IDC white paper, sponsored by SimpliVity, the analyst group found that customers increased time spent on innovation and new projects by an equivalent of 81%. In addition the white paper noted that SimpliVity customers increased IT budget spent on new technology projects, as opposed to IT budget spent on maintaining existing infrastructure, from 43% to 56%, equivalent to a total increase of 33%.
Hyperconverged infrastructure adoption continues to expand at an incredible rate, particularly in EMEA, and is showing no signs of slowing down. With enterprise customers all around the world like bet365, Merlin Entertainments, as well as a Fortune 50 financial services firm which is replacing all legacy IT infrastructure in favor of SimpliVity’s hyperconverged solution, it’s clear hyperconvergence is picking up serious steam.
