Power management and cost management go hand in hand. When power requirements are reduced, so too are costs. As a global leader in power management solutions, Eaton is fully committed to helping customers meet their electrical requirements more efficiently, safely, and sustainably. In an era of rising utility costs and mounting environmental concerns, we are continuously seeking innovative ways to help IT organizations reduce energy consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions. To that end, our Energy Star® qualified UPS solutions are up to 99% efficienct, helping businesses eliminate energy waste and contain costs. And our Intelligent Power Management (IPM) software helps customers improve operations and system availability by centralizing and automating power monitoring and management functions in both physical and virtual environments.
Our recent interoperability partnership with SimpliVity extends Eaton’s commitment to innovation and green IT even further. SimpliVity’s hyperconverged infrastructure solution consolidates all IT below the hypervisor into a single solution, meaning that the eight to twelve disparate products required in a traditional legacy IT environment is replaced with a single solution. This massive consolidation helps businesses reduce their carbon footprint and lower operating expenses by combining a variety of IT functions onto common, leading, industry-standard hardware. By eliminating point products and collapsing siloed data center architectures, SimpliVity helps IT organizations simplify operations and dramatically reduce recurring power, cooling, and rack space expenses.
By combining SimpliVity and Eaton, customers can enjoy the energy and cost savings of both a hyperconverged IT platform and an ultra-efficient power management system. But that is really only just the beginning.
What happens if there is a power outage at your core data center? What if disaster strikes? With SimpliVity running Eaton’s IPM software, you can intelligently extend the availability of business-critical applications. With this software running on SimpliVity’s hyperconverged solutions, administrators are able to prepare for disaster by predefining what actions specific virtual machines (VMs) should take if a disaster or power outage occurs. For example, if a power disruption is detected on a SimpliVity system, IPM can automatically shut down non-essential VMs to conserve battery power and extend system availability while mission-critical VMs can be automatically moved to a secondary SimpliVity system in a backup data center to ensure business continuity. And because Eaton environmental monitoring probes measure data center humidity and temperature, plus monitor the status of external devices like smoke detectors and door sensors, IPM can proactively move critical VMs to a secondary data center for disaster recovery in the case of a fire, flood, or security breach.
Eaton is pleased to deliver the industry’s first power management solution fully validated with a hyperconverged infrastructure. SimpliVity and Eaton have jointly tested the Eaton IPM software, Eaton 5P UPS and Eaton Managed ePDU G3 power distribution unit integrated with a SimpliVity deployment. The multivendor solution fits easily with established VMware management systems and practices for straightforward adoption. SimpliVity and Eaton products are all centrally administered using VMware’s familiar vCenter management console.
SimpliVity and Eaton help IT organizations reduce energy consumption, simplify operations, and improve system availability, proving Green IT can be good for the planet and good for business.
