The hyperconverged space is certainly heating up. Having just returned from VMworld 2016, it seems like everybody and their dog is getting into the game lately! With so many vendors rushing into the hyperconverged category, it’s more important than ever to understand what sets them apart.

The customer, a Forbes global 50 holding company with $44.24B in revenues, had a pressing need to consolidate and standardize VDI infrastructure after a few recent mergers and acquisitions. They chose SimpliVity after evaluating a host of other vendors. It came down to a bake-off between SimpliVity and another leading hyperconverged platform. SimpliVity won the day.
Here’s a rundown of what enabled SimpliVity to come out on top.
A great desktop experience – independently validated
SimpliVity is the only hyperconverged solution to offer independently validated results from Login VSI, the industry-standard benchmarking tool for virtualized workloads. There are other benchmarking tools out there, but Login VSI is the one to trust. Why? First, they provide a real-world benchmark that accurately simulates production workloads. Second, they provide the option to independently-validate results. Not every vendor takes advantage of this option, but it’s the only way to prove that a vendor has complied with Login VSI’s rigorous standards.
Here are some of the stats from SimpliVity’s Login VSI testing on VMware Horizon 7:
- 1,000 linked clones booted in 19 minutes – effectively negating boot storms and login storms

What it shows is that SimpliVity delivers a great user experience, with very low latency. And most importantly, predictable performance as users are added and the environment scales. This means users will be happy with their virtual desktops, and IT won’t be flooded with complaints when the morning rush of users logs in at the same time on Monday morning.
Superior price versus performance
During the bakeoff with the competition, we led in performance against their hybrid (HDD and SDD) equivalent. Eventually, the competition brought in their all-flash model, which won out on performance by only a thin margin. Of course, it doesn’t take a PhD in finance to realize that the price for performance of SimpliVity was the clear leader. That’s how we can deliver a great user experience without compromising on economics.
Highest desktop density
SimpliVity stands out when it comes to desktop density. In fact, we just announced the ability to support 4,000 office worker desktops in a single VDI building block of 16 SimpliVity nodes, including reserved capacity for high availability. Ability to leverage existing hardware for compute power

Using SimpliVity’s built-in data protection for remote replication, and a disaster recovery automation tool, they helped to ensure the continuous availability of the desktop environment with minimal downtime in the event of a disaster.
