SimpliVity OmniCube Featured on HBO’s Silicon Valley
Hyperconvergence leader provided technical consultation and product materials for HBO’s hit series, guiding an authentic view of the IT infrastructure space
WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—May 15, 2016—SimpliVity, a leader in hyperconverged infrastructure revolutionizing enterprise IT, today announced that the company’s flagship product – the OmniCube – was featured on the HBO comedy series Silicon Valley as the Pied Piper Box, which debuted Sunday night.
HBO’s comedy series, Silicon Valley, co-created by Mike Judge, is a clever depiction of the high-tech industry in the Bay Area. The television show follows the trials and triumphs of a small group of young engineers creating a startup company in Silicon Valley. In the HBO comedy, Richard Hendricks, the fictitious startup founder of Pied Piper, creates a revolutionary data compression algorithm that catches the attention of venture capitalist firms and tech giants for its potential in a wide variety of applications in the business to business IT industry.
“SimpliVity’s hyperconverged infrastructure not only massively consolidates the IT infrastructure stack, but it also provides unparalleled data efficiency,” said Marianne Budnik, SimpliVity chief marketing officer. “SimpliVity eliminates unnecessary IO with superior data deduplication, compression, and optimization, providing customers with an average of 40:1 data capacity savings while improving application performance.”
SimpliVity served as a technical consultant for the series’ producers, writers, and art department. The creative team visited SimpliVity’s headquarters in Westborough, Massachusetts to view, research, and recreate an authentic data center and product development space for the show. As an IT infrastructure expert and market leader, SimpliVity also helped the TV show’s creative team accurately portray the phases of product development and testing that led to development of the Pied Piper Box on the Silicon Valley show.
SimpliVity’s hyperconverged solution, powered by the OmniStack Data Virtualization Platform, is delivered through its SimpliVity OmniCube appliance and with Cisco UCS, and Lenovo System x servers. The SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure solution combines all IT infrastructure and data services below the hypervisor—including compute, storage, backup, replication, and more—to reduce IT costs and streamline operations, improve agility, and mitigate risk.
